In reply to your letter of the 8th of July

1866/927/10 regarding the recent strike at Hong Kong I am directed by Mr Secretary Churchill to repeat you to inform the Marquess Curzon of Kedleston that he cordially agrees that close co-operation between the Government of Hong Kong and His Majesty's Representative at Canton is not only desirable but indeed essential. The question has been discussed with Sir R.E. Stubbs and it is understood that he has arranged for Mr Hallifax (The Secretary for Chinese Affairs) to visit Canton weekly and that he will welcome frequent opportunities for interchange of views between Mr Jamieson or one of his staff and the Colonial Government in Hong Kong.

I

Sir,

Your most obedient servant,

[Signature]
